‘West hatching massive anti-Syria plot’

In a meeting with visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani underlined Iran’s full support for Syria against the foreign conspiracies and the influx of terrorist operatives into the Arab nation.

“The Syrian government and nation, given their steadfastness and resistance against the terrorists flowing into their country, have proved that they enjoy a broad [popular] support, and can defuse various crises themselves,” the Iranian Majlis speaker pointed out.

He added, “The Iranian government and nation will continue to stand by the Syrian government and nation.”

Larijani furthered noted that Majlis will throw its weight behind the implementation of trade agreements already signed between Tehran and Damascus.

Muallem, for his part, expressed gratitude over Iran’s support for the Syrian nation and noted that Syrians will never forget the encouragements of Iran.

“After [their] defeat in Damascus, the terrorists expanded the fight in Aleppo. The Syrian government forces, however, will flush them out of the city in the near future,” he pointed out.

The Syrian foreign minister argued that certain Western and reactionary regional states are slapping sanctions on Syria in a bid to exert pressure on Syrians and fan the flames of the Syrian conflict.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists’ are behind the unrest while the opposition accuses the security forces of killing protesters.

Damascus also says the security forces have been given clear instructions not to harm civilians.
