A 77-year-old man and his wife have died in the blaze in the mountains west of Denver while the search still continues for a woman who went missing after the blaze devoured 4,500 acres.
The fire has already forced hundreds of residents to evacuate with officials saying more people may need to leave their homes.
Emergency workers fear the blaze could spread northwards as weather conditions are causing the fire to act erratically.
The fire is believed to have been ignited by embers left over from a controlled-burning operation. Authorities started the fire last week to clear parched vegetation as potential wild-fire fuel.
