Woman faces court over NSW lawyer’s murder

One of the four people accused of murdering a young lawyer in a house fire in the Illawarra has appeared in court.

Michelle Sharon Proud appeared via videolink at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday charged with murder, and maliciously destroying property with the intent to endanger life.

She did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by magistrate Michael Stoddart.

Proud, who also appeared in court in December last year, is one of four people charged over the murder of solicitor Katie Foreman.

Ms Foreman, 31, died on October 27 when a fire tore through her Corrimal home in the early hours.

Police say accelerant was found throughout the gutted house.

Police allege that a man and a woman arrested in the Illawarra area masterminded the deadly fire and that they paid two people from western Sydney to start it.

They say a previous relationship existed between the two pairs, and the pair in the Illawarra knew Ms Foreman socially and as a legal practitioner.

Proud is expected to appear before the court again on February 29.
