Woman glider in hospital after Vic crash

An elderly woman has life-threatening injuries following a glider crash in northern Victoria.

Emergency services were called to a property on Wilson Road at Goorambat, north of Benalla, about 6.30pm (AEDT) on Sunday after witnesses reported seeing an aircraft circle then descend quickly.

Police were told the motorised aircraft hit the ground and came to rest about 100 metres away.

It is believed the experienced pilot, an 80-year-old woman, took off from Benalla airport and glided to NSW, before returning to Benalla.

The woman was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne, where she is suffering life-threatening injuries.
