Yemen: Al-Qaeda uses the situation to increase their power – U.S. and Saudi Arabia concerned about al

Ali Abdullah Saleh, the first President of the Republic of Yemen, has resigned after a long struggle and gave his power provisionally to his vice president. However, the situation in the country on the Arabian Peninsula has not improved – not even a bit.

On the one hand, there are still regular demonstrations against the impunity of former long-time president. On the other hand, it seems that al-Qaeda fighters are able to spread their influence within Yemen. At the end.. ..No huge surprise. Of course, because of the situation within Yemen and all other events it was almost to expect that al-Qaeda might increase its influence also within Yemen.

Yemen has always been considered as a sanctuary for al-Qaeda and the United States were very grateful for their allies Saleh, the first and now former President of the Republic of Yemen. Saleh has nothing against U.S. troops within his country and has never asked any questions or for conditions. Maybe this is also one of the reasons why some people took on the streets.

The United States performed illegal drone attacks on positions of the so-called al-Qaeda within Yemen on several occasions without being prosecuted in any form – even if these drone attacks were also against any international law.

After Saleh gave his power to his vice president, it is sure questionable if the United States is able to continue to operate with such actions in Yemen.

But finally, the actual developments in Yemen, however, seem to not please the U.S. nor Saudi Arabia. What a small surprise considering that the U.S. and Saudi Arabia supported al-Qaeda thugs within Libya and maybe in Syria at the moment. Of course, the United States wants to send about 12,000 soldiers to Libya now. To fight against the increasing revolution against the people behind the stolen “Arab spring”-uprising?

The international press is still dumb about the real events within Libya – but, at least, some journalists awake slowly. It is still the same since years. First, articles based or / and using false information and propaganda, afterwards some real journalism. This is truly not the way journalism should work, but nowadays journalism is also a question of economy.

Already some time ago, not long after the so-called outbreak of protests and demonstrations against the first President of the Republic of Yemen, Saleh, you were able to read about the fact, that al-Qaeda thugs took an Yemeni city in southern Yemen under their control.

Nowadays, there are finally some reports about the expansion of power by the Islamists – al-Qaeda and so on; even if the international press still misses the bad game by Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis (Salafiyah / Salafists) within Egypt, Syria and also some other countries. But of course, these are current events.

These journalists will review the truth afterwards – as usually. It is a fact within Yemen, that the Islamists increase their power all over the country. They have already taken the Yemeni city of Rada, without encountering much resistance – of course.

The Yemeni police was hardly able to really fight against these al-Qaeda thugs.

The Yemeni city of Rada was taken on last Sunday. Afterwards, the Islamists, al-Qaeda thugs, stormed the prison of Rada on Monday and ensured that about 250 prisoners were released. Again, it is really no huge surprise. That`s the way al-Qaeda works.

Of course, among these prisoners are supporters of several terrorist organizations. The al-Qaeda will be happy about these new members and “freelancers”.

Saudi Arabia supported the resignation of Saleh within Yemen and also the Gulf Cooperation Council supported this and also worked out an appropriate compromise proposal. Currently, Saudi Arabia should be concerned about the situation within their neighbor state Yemen. The current situation in Yemen is likely a reason for major headache for the members of the Saudi ruling family. Despite some of them might support al-Qaeda ideology.

Saleh had no longer a chance to stay in power within Yemen. But because of the prevailing turmoil in Yemen, the Islamists are able to better foothold. Although the ruling family of Saudi Arabia are said to be in line with some Islamist organizations, they surely do not like the current situation within their neighbor state Yemen.

Qatar supports al-Qaeda within Libya. Saudi Arabia does not care much about Libya because Libya is not within the field of interest for the Saudi ruling family. Yemen is surely another topic.

It seems that there is no end in sight within the chaos in Yemen. The times, in which the U.S. could easily perform drone attacks within Yemen, are likely over.

Thus do both, Saudi Arabia and the U.S., are concerned about how the situation will developed in Yemen. Although both should have known before what could happen. But it is the same with their Foreign Policy when it is about Egypt, Afghanistan, Iraq or also Syria. It is a paradox and often hypocritically.

The majority of the Yemeni population does not have a lot of money, but the country should not (completely) get lost, because there is oil in Yemen and above all, there are important shipping routes from Asia to Europe. These important shipping routes have to be protected. When it is about money and economy, the International community helps.

So the access to the important shipping routes should be the main interest of both countries, U.S. and Saudi Arabia. Really great “allies”.

Currently, it is not really clear to what extent the United States and Saudi Arabia will get involved in the affairs within Yemen now. At least, it is not entirely clear.

But it is totally clear, that especially Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council have every interest in stabilizing the situation within Yemen and to safeguard the borders of this lost country. It is truly not to be underestimated, that the riots and problems within Yemen are able to reach its neighboring states. The risk of this scenario is also huge.

This would mean a destabilization of the entire region, including Saudi Arabia.

To be honest, whether al-Qaeda and other Islamists are able to continue to operate in Yemen and to focus on expanding their power and influence within this country is not entirely clear.

This is certainly connected with the next steps of Saudi Arabia and the United States, but both are currently focusing on Iran and Syria. Syria – to pave the path to Iran finally. Both warmonger-attitudes are based on propaganda, “false flag” acts and some other reasons. Of course, the AIPAC-influenced U.S. Foreign Policy is nothing really good for peace on this planet.

So one has to wait for the next steps within the upcoming weeks to really say what might be able to happen in and with Yemen.

Also the new presidential elections will be held on 21th February in Yemen. While we do not mention that these elections are to doubt, these elections could perhaps bring changes for the battered country Yemen. Perhaps these presidential elections within Yemen will (also) show that the Islamists, the radical followers of Islam at this point, win more and more power.

You were able to observe similar developments in other country, such as Egypt or Tunisia – as it has also been predicted by some. Not to mention that the question remains, why U.S. Foreign Policy is so damn paradox and strange (some also would call U.S. Foreign Policy a threat to the safety of this planet).

Maybe Qatar financed al-Qaida in Yemen, too. This would be nice for Qatar because the Qatari leaders are happy about every growing influence, not only by the Islamists, but also by the Qatari ruling house. May God watch about Yemen – Libya, Syria and others.
