Coast TAFE to offer mining jobs course

JOB seekers looking for work in the booming mining industry may attend a free five-week TAFE course on the Gold Coast to help them prepare for lucrative new employment opportunities.

Premier Anna Bligh yesterday announced the program which will cost $1.2 million and provide 500 free places in areas of high unemployment missing out on the boom such as the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Cairns, the Whitsundays and the Wide Bay.

From next year the Resources 101 course will be offered across the TAFE Queensland network.

Ms Bligh said the course would give job seekers and the under-employed hoping to score new jobs in mining regions basic skills needed for their applications.

The free course, which will be offered at the Ashmore campus, will start after the Work for Queensland job expo in October.
