Walmart store

There will indeed be no Walmart opened in Brooklyn New York for the time being, according to reports in the news media.

Walmart Stores said on Friday it had failed to reach an agreement with a developer to have a store opened in the borough of Brooklyn in New York, which is a company setback in its attempt to open its first store in the largest U.S. city.

Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, has been in talks with companies to open a store in the Gateway Two Square development in Brooklyn. Shop Rite Supermarket will occupy that space instead of Walmart.

In a statement, Walmart said it will continue looking for a site, adding that most New Yorkers want the discount giant to open a store in their town.

“We remain committed to bringing new economic development and shopping options to New York, especially in neighborhoods that need it most,” said Steven Restivo, senior director of Walmart in the affairs of the community, in the statement.

Walmart has faced opposition from some groups in New York who say they do not pay their workers properly and drive out small businesses from business.
