The American British Colonies grew tired of Taxation without Representation, all Americans joined together and fought a brave war to win their freedom from the British Crown.

Real History of the United States of America:

A few of the movers and shakers who lived along the coast of the colonies grew tired of taking orders from a fat German who was King in England, who would not allow the colonies to do anything without his blessing, who would not allow the colonies to coin their own money, who tried to dictate from three thousand miles away and at least several weeks lag time from a dictate and when a ship arrive with the notice of this and that the fat German King of England had decided.

When some brief armed discourses between Americans and British Redcoats happened and a few Americans were killed by the troops, the Americans reacted and the fat German King of England retaliated by shutting down ports and banning trade in certain areas, causing great hardship on the Americans depending of fishing and foreign trade.

When the open revolt came in New York, and for some time afterwards, most Americans sought redress for their grievances but thought things would be settled, the fat king would give them more autonomy and the colonies would remain under the umbrella of the British Crown.

The folks living in the forrest and the frontiers were not much affected one way or the other and most could have cared less what was going on along the coastal areas.
Many were small farmers who lived a hard life with few real possessions.
As long as they made a good crop so they did not starve to death over the winter months and did not get killed by Indians, they were satisfied.
They had so little a cast iron cooking pot was important enough to put in their will so the chosen child got it.

When it became apparent there was no going back and no solution short of open revolt for cutting the apron strings with the Crown, as per John Adams, about 1/3 of the people were in favor of revolt.
About 1/3ed stayed loyal to the Crown.
About a 1/3ed wished the other 2/3s would just leave them out of choosing sides altogether as they were too poor or too far out in the woods to care who was in charge.

Of the 1/3ed who remained loyal to the crown, very few were interested in serving in the British militias known as Torys.

Of the 1/3ed who were for revolution, very few were interested in serving as a soldier.
Many who did join up, deserted when things got bad.
Those serving in the respective state governments and the Continental Congress were more interested in making themselves and their friends rich than supplying the Continental Army with food, medicines, weapons, ammunition, clothing or funds.

Many of the Revolutionaries who yelled loudest for revolt and dissolution of the Crown and the States union, made damn sure they were no where around when the lop sided battles were fought.

Washington and a handful of Winter Soldiers who stuck with him threw thick and thin, froze, marched bare foot or with rags around their feet leaving blood trails in the snow, did without proper clothing, shelter, food, weapons, ammunition, and were paid with script which became worth less every day.

Washington fought a delaying hit and run form of guerrilla warfare as he has “soldiers” who were not drilled with military knowledge as the Red Coats were, a rag tag bunch with many officers who knew nothing of warfare either.
He tried to buy time for the government and people to get behind the army enough and to get time to train his young farm boys into a military disciplined in warfare.

When forced to face the Redcoats on open battlefields, the Americans usually came off as the losers as the Red Coats were the best trained, best equipped, most experienced army in the world at that time while the Americans were badly fed, badly clothed, badly armed, wet behind the ears farm boys, many who did not even have bayonets to back up their slow to load and unreliable flintlock muskets.

The Redcoats were damn good at bayonet charges.
A bunch of young boys with no bayonet to defend themselves on the field of battle once their musket was fired, and the British charge got to close, did the only sensible thing.
They ran.

In the end, mainly due to Washington’s leadership and his stubbornness at keeping going in the face of all his and his Winter soldiers handicaps, with help from the French Crown, won the day.

The next war was the War of 1812, with the British crown again.
