ACA hands evidence to Vic police

The Nine Network will not air an interview with a prostitute who claims embattled MP Craig Thomson was a client until a police investigation is complete.

A Current Affair says it has handed material uncovered during an investigation into Mr Thomson over to Victorian police.

Last week, ACA staff spent 90 minutes in Mr Thomson’s parliamentary office where they sought his response to the claims from the anonymous prostitute.

Mr Thomson said he was told the woman had identified him from a photo.

ACA said in a statement on Wednesday that it had completed an investigation into allegations made against Mr Thomson in relation to his time as head of the Health Services Union.

“The Victoria Police Fraud and Extortion Squad are presently conducting a criminal investigation in relation to Craig Thomson and we have supplied evidentiary material in our possession, resulting from our inquiries, to police,” ACA executive producer Grant Williams said.

“We now await the outcome of the police investigation before pursuing the story any further.”

Victoria police said they could not confirm that they had requested or received any material as it was an ongoing investigation.

Mr Thomson said he was pleased by the ACA decision.

“I am glad to see people are starting to respect due process,” he said in a statement.
