He told AFP he had sent Lt Nazir to the provincial reconstruction team (PRT) base at Lashkar Gah base to collect a commander, he said, “but apparently the Nato soldiers did not open the gate for them, he got angry and shot them”.
Lt Nazir, from Achin district of Nangarhar, was shot dead himself when troops returned fire.
Afghan soldiers and police have shot dead their Nato allies in spate of killings in recent years. Sixteen Nato troops have been killed by Afghan personnel in the first three months of this year, in a trend of killings which has significantly undermined trust between the allies.
