Researchers say they have created the first ever animal with artificial information in its genetic code.
The technique, they say, could give biologists “atom-by-atom control” over the molecules in living organisms.
One expert the BBC spoke to agrees, saying the technique would be seized upon by “the entire biology community”.

What makes the newly created animals different is that their genetic code has been extended to create biological molecules not known in the natural world.

So kind of like putting an insulin gene into bacteria in order to mass produce insulin? If you look at it like they present it, doesn’t seem too good. Isn’t the purpose of science and modern medicine to produce things not found in the natural world, to do things that aren’t natural.
there is the profit motive of course. you could legalize cannabis, people could grow enough for themselves in a spot in the yard. cure many ills naturally and inexpensively. but you can’t patent nature, can’t make a ton of money. so many mercenary scientists and health care professionals would be out of work the unemployment rate would skyrocket.
