Are the Philadelphia Police Under Constant ISIS Threat?

Saturday night Philadelphia police officer, Jesse Hartnett, was attacked while in his cruiser. Hartnett was shot three times but managed to chase and wound Edward Archer, his assailant. Archer was apprehended a block later. After his arrest he allegedly proclaimed his allegiance to ISIS and said he was only following the will of Allah. He also believes the Philadelphia police defends laws that are contrary to Islam.

Who really cares if they defend laws contrary to religious beliefs? I’m more worried about the defense of laws that are contrary to our individual liberty by police across the globe.

Archers brother told a local fox affiliate that he(Archer) was not affiliated with ISIS and believed the attack was more likely related to poor treatment of the black community by the Philadelphia police. Since 2009 the city has paid out more than forty million in damages as the result of 600 misconduct lawsuits.

The department has issued a warning to its officers that three of Archer’s associates were still at large and the threat to police was not ever. These ambiguous associates are said to be more radical than Edward. All officers have been mandated to work in pairs for further notice.

The police were made aware of their existence of this group by an anonymous tipster who told them the threat was not over. The tipster also said that Archer was increasingly radicalized after visiting a local mosque and the police should be careful. The only problem with this narrative is the mosque preaches against extremism and posted this on their website after the shooting.

It’s very easy to point the finger and blame or to just throw an accusation around,” the administrator said. “It’s a different story altogether when you actually come in and listen to our sermons and listen to our lessons.”

The even posted a message of empathy and a reminder not to let the tragedy cause a divide in the community on the website for the mosque.

We all stand united in dealing with the pain of this calamity as well as in our strong and unwavering stance in denouncing and combating terrorism.”

Investigators have also failed at overturning evidence that Archer has affiliations with Islamic State. The FBI said it will take time to investigate terrorist connections but no connections existed as of now. The attack is right on the heels of the Paris and San Bernardino shootings. Both have been blamed on people with connections to ISIS but there are many fallacies surrounding the official reports and many questions are still unanswered.

The Philadelphia police might be perpetuating fear by continuing a narrative about ISIS militants attacking their officers. For starters the man started with nothing to say then decided to admit he acted in accordance with his Islamic beliefs. There was no connection to a four man terror cell until an anonymous tipster approached the police with information about Archers radicalization at a local mosque. That mosque on the other hand  claims to preach against extremism; the opposite of what the tipster said.

All of this leads to a the discovery of a four man terrorist cell operating out of Pennsylvania and targeting police for defending laws contrary to their religious beliefs. All of this was brought to the attention by an anonymous tipster how some how knew that the three other individuals were somehow more radical than Archer.

Not even Jim Kenny, the Mayor of Philadelphia believes that the actions are inline with ISIS thinking.

In no way shape or form does anyone in this room believe that what was done represents Islam,” Kenney said. “This was done by a criminal with a stolen gun.

The irony of the entire ordeal is that police are more dangerous to the individuals residing in the US than Islamic state terrorists have ever been. Deaths at the hands of police grow steadily every year with well over a thousand people killed in the US, last year alone. ISIS on the other hand has only killed four. To put it in real perspective, american police killed more americans during the Iraq war than terrorists killed soldiers. Literally making it more dangerous to be a civilian in the US than a soldier in a war zone.

It doesn’t appear that there are any terrorists connections at this time and there is a lot of evidence supporting the possibility that Edward was acting alone and on his volition. Claiming an allegiance to ISIS or that he was acting on the behalf of Allah in order to combat unjust western laws was probably something he cooked up to give some form of meaning to actions.
