Armed men rob Brisbane pub with fake bomb

CCTV footage has emerged of three men who terrorised patrons at a Brisbane pub by pointing guns at them and threatening to blow them up with a “bomb”.

But the “bomb” turned out to be just two yellow bars of soap bound together with black electrical tape.

The thieves targeted Sunnybank’s Lucky Star Tavern at around 10.45pm on April 30.

The balaclava-clad men stormed into the pub on foot and placed what they claimed was a bomb on the bar.

Two of the bandits forced a worker to open the office and hand over the day’s taking while the other robber, armed with a rifle, order gamblers to the floor in the pokie room.

The robbery ended within a few minutes and the thieves fled the building on foot.

The “bomb” was left on the bar and explosives experts determined it was not dangerous.

Police believe they may have made their getaway in a car and have called upon witnesses to come forward.

A man who was at the pub during the hold-up said he was not surprised by the robbery.

“It’s not the first time it’s happened,” he said.

“It’s happened on several occasions, hasn’t it?”

“It’s not the best area.”
