One of the worst aspects of living in these apocalyptic times is that whenever you look around the world, wondering where you might escape to, you begin to realise that everywhere else is just as bad if not worse.
Take Australia, an island built on fossil fuel with an economy dependent on fossil fuel. What would be the maddest economic policy a place like that could pursue as the world tips deeper into recession? Why, to introduce a carbon tax, of course. Which, for reasons just explained above, means a tax on absobloodylutely everything. Which is exactly what Julia Gillard’s Coalition (why is it that word always makes me want to reach for my Browning?) has just gone and done, obviously.
What must be particularly galling to all the Australians (the majority) bitterly opposed to this lunatic measure is the unutterable feebleness of the arguments the Coalition is using to justify it.

Nice people, but they never were too long on smarts
For 20 years…technology has existed in Australia to eliminate all this “dog and pony show”
The vehicles have restrictions of any “modifications that improve emiisions”
They lost all their private guns… non-operating antiques and collectables included.
The Carbon Tax…once allowed…validates “stupidity”….on so many levels.
I has to be started somewhere…to gain a foothold to be perpetuated…
forced on the rest of the world.
The people who promoted thsi legailated should be tried for “crimes against humanity”
America is watching all this.
I will start investigating any and all patents originated/owned in Australia… (royalties)
and eliminate them from MY economic voting powers.
Call it a technical embargo of sorts.
I’m not aware that America, ‘watching this’ has any effect on the country. As far as I am concerned America is one of the worst countries in the world. The Carbon Tax in Australia may be a precursor for other countries getting it, but it has little to no effect at all in reality. If you actually knew anything about Australian politics or the country you would be far less arrogant in your assumptions.
“little to no effect in reality”? Really?
Not very bright are you?
This article is riddled with inaccuracies. The Labour party is not known as the Coalition, that is the Liberal Party (the opposing party), and the Carbon Tax will not cripple our economy at all. I must admit I dreaded the passing of the bill, but this article is horribly inaccurate and should be reassessed and properly researched. The Carbon Tax will cost each Australian Citizen an extra $5 dollars a year! D: NOT FIVE DOLLARS! This article is grossly inaccurate. Economic suicide is a HUGE overstatement!
I was considering moving there till I found out Austrians love Americans to visit but hate Americans who would stay.
