Former Tasmania Liberal senator Guy Barnett is considering an invitation to run for state parliament.
Mr Barnett said Tasmania desperately needed better government at both state and federal levels.
“I have been invited to run for state parliament and will consider this,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
The Liberal Party’s vote in Tasmania slumped in the 2010 state election on the back of a 4.4 per cent swing against the opposition, bucking the 2.4 per cent national swing towards the coalition.
Shortly after the election, Mr Barnett hit out at opposition Senate leader Eric Abetz for the Liberals’ campaign in Tasmania, saying he should take the blame for the party’s poor showing.
