Michelle Beets was killed outside her Chatswood home last year. Today Walter Marsh’s wife told the court her husband told her Ms Beets “had to go”.

The wife of a man accused of killing Sydney nurse Michelle Beets has told a court her husband told her he had permission from a secret organisation to commit the murder.

Walter Marsh is accused of killing Ms Beets in April last year outside her Chatswood home by slitting her throat and stabbing her eight times.

Samantha Marsh gave evidence via video link in the New South Wales Supreme Court today, saying her husband blamed his former supervisor at Royal North Shore Hospital for providing bad employment references.

Mrs Marsh said her husband, who is a former United States marine, often said Ms Beets “had to go”.

She told the court Marsh told her a secret organisation in Belfast in Northern Ireland had given him permission to kill the nursing manager.

Mrs Marsh said she told her husband it was a stupid idea.

Crown prosecutor Mark Tedeschi also referred to a secret organisation called The Service in his opening address last week.

The court also heard from Mrs Marsh that her husband bought second-hand clothes and shoes which disappeared after the murder.

She said he also scrubbed their names off his bike, replacing them with a translation of the phrase “the end justifies the means”.

Mrs Marsh said her husband simulated the killing technique used on Ms Beets on her, instructing her to struggle to break his hold.

Defence lawyer Keith Chapple has dismissed Mrs Marsh’s evidence, saying she is lying because she wants a visa to stay in Australia.

The trial continues.
