Human remains have been found at a beach south of Newcastle.
A fisherman contacted police at about 1.15pm (AEST) on Saturday after discovering the remains of a man south of Caves Beach, near Lake Macquarie.
A major search began two weeks ago for two missing men, aged 18 and 20, after the body of an 18-year-old woman washed up on Ghosties Beach, further south from the latest discovery.
The remains found on Saturday have not been formally identified but police have taken them to the Newcastle Morgue for forensic examination.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are continuing.
