NATO may have ended its operations in Libya, but the Western presence is far from over – with big companies replacing the warplanes. The countries that bombed the oil-rich country are now getting lucrative contracts to rebuild it. RT’s Laura Smith adds up the profits of war.

  1. Placing the politics aside for one moment.. Western tax payers funded the destruction through military action. Now injured Libyan’s are being flown to European hospitals on mass to have their injuries attended to. Again paid for by Western tax payers via NATO. Yet when the lucrative jobs of reconstruction and oil drilling are won, the money goes to into private hands (friends of government..Halliburton etc) and the tax payers get nothing.

Personally I think the Libyan conflict was another disgraceful episode in western politics. But even if you think NATO should have taken action, who can justify the tax payer funding all the costly non profitable actions so private companies are awarded the lucrative contracts. Shouldn’t the profit be refunded to the tax payer in the form of tax reductions?

Yet another case where government simply uses tax funds to benefit private business fiends. I bet if such dealing were made illegal, the need for war would disappear over night. If you are part of the military, how do you feel when you know you are killing people so a government crony can get fat?

  2. Yep, the taxpayer pays to destroy the country, and then the taxpayer pays to rebuild the country.

  3. Well said and I agree with you.

Perhaps even on a certain level we can make the rational argument that the companies and workers of NATO should be the first in line to benefit.

What irk me is when the self same sanctimoniousness policy wonks who are or will make millions from book deals or consulting contracts . Throw the American workers under the bus for their own self esteem.

Why should not blue collar Oil workers or Caterpillar be the first in line for contracts.

There something absurd that our 20 year old boys are dodging IED’s.
So China can supply heavy equipment for the next 10 years of reconstruction.
While Hillary and her compatriots nod their head in smug and cozy in their altruistic superiority.

Bottom line is that the solider comes home to a shut down plant and stunted future. Meanwhile some policy wonk in Washington is feeling good about his charity at our expense
