Brian Sumner’s Top 5 Posts of 2015

I was invited to start blogging at CopBlock.org in April this year. Since that time I have published over a hundred blogs and was invited to accompany Ademo Freeman on the #MACtour. Overall I feel like this has been a successful year for my endeavors as an activist and journalist. As we get closer to the new year I would like to share my five favorite posts of 2015.

#1 You Can’t Count on the Enforcement Class to Defend Freedom

This was a collection of my thoughts and feelings about different branches of the enforcement class. Often times the members of these branches and the people who support them, make the claim that without these institutions, we would be void of all freedom. History proves that freedom is in greater danger from these institutions, than any ambiguous terrorist threats.

#2 New Jersey Cop Slams, Nearly Kills Female Senior Citizen

Fortuna Riga was pulled over with his 61-year-old mother. When the officer started to get physical with Fortuna and pulled him out of his car. his mother intervened. She grabbed one of the officers and asked what was going on? The officer slammed her on her face, breaking out her teeth and causing multiple facial fractures. Riga was arrested and given multiple citations.

#3 Juvenile Arrested for Rapping NWA song in Public

A teenager was arrested for rapping lyrics to an unknown NWA song. The arrest happened close to the Straight Outta Compton movie premier, that focused on the controversial rap group. I think it’s safe to assume that the lyrics were probably to the song “Fuck the Police”. The video runs out with interaction still happening but it looks like a first amendment violation from here.

#4 No More Secret Trials for Police in California

In the middle of August a historic vote took place in California that effectively banned the use of grand juries for police indicted in officer involved shootings. The secret trials were all but useless when it came to convicting cops for their actions. Sb227 will force prosecutors to choose for themselves whether or not to file criminal charges against cops who shoot civilians. Removing the cloak of secrecy and making them personally responsible for removing killer cops from our communities.

#5 Police Cadet Fails Two Question Constitution Test

Although this post didn’t get too much traffic, I thought it was one of the funniest interactions I’ve had with law enforcement. How often does someone tell you they know something, then immediately balk when you ask them about it? It happened to me while I was out CopBlocking the Fresno cruise. While I was out walking around, I ran into some police cadets. I asked them if they would answer some questions and one of them obliged me. Unfortunately she didn’t know the answers and embarrassed herself.

I hope you have enjoyed my content as much as I did creating it. If you would like to read more of my posts from this year, please check out my author page.
