‘China can help Argentina over Malvinas’

“China is a central player to us because basically it has a permanent seat at the UN Security Council and because together with Russia it is a constant opponent to UK’s occupation of Malvinas,” Juan Recce, an expert on international affairs from “People’s for Malvinas” group told Press TV.

Recce noted that the UK would face troubles in case of its claims over the disputed islands.

“If the UK is really seeking an agenda during the 21st century in South Atlantic, it must begin to consider the possibility that Argentina controls these territories, mainly because of the complexities that could emerge in its relations with Latin America,” he said.

Meanwhile, South American allies of Argentina condemned UK’s continuing refusal to hold sovereignty talks over the issue.

Buenos Aires and London fought a 74-day war in 1982 over the Islands, which ended with the British side claiming victory over the Argentines.

The United Nations has called on Britain to discuss decolonization. The UK has so far refused to do so.

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has reaffirmed her government’s peaceful intentions to solve the dispute only through diplomatic channels.
