Chinese plane in Xinjiang hijack attempt

“They [the hijackers] went straight for the cockpit but failed,” she
wrote. “It is said the cockpit doors have all been strengthened after
9/11. One security guard was severely injured though.” She added: “They
brought a football-sized bomb onto the plane. Also, after all the other
passengers were checked [by police] they found a seventh accomplice.”

The police in Xinjiang did not respond to requests for comment.

The region is home to a mainly Muslim population of ethnic Uighurs, some of
whom have complained at being marginalised by immigrant Han Chinese.

The Communist party has repeatedly accused the region of harbouring terrorists
bent on splitting Xinjiang into an independent state. Last September, four
people were sentenced to death for their roles in incidents that killed 32
people in Kashgar and Hotan.
