The world has been gripped by the recent tragic events that happened in Las Vegas, but even in the darkest of times, there’s always a ray of light that comes shining through. In this case, that loving light can be found in Dawn-Marie Gray and her husband, Kevin.
The couple had won tickets to a Las Vegas country music festival through a radio show but never could have predicted such a horrendous turn of events would happen at the concert. As people began to run during the attack, the couple made one major decision that has since made headlines.
Run. That’s what everyone did after they heard the air continuously burst with the frightening “pop, pop, pop” sounds that no one ever wants to hear.
The Grays took cover in a VIP area, but they didn’t run away from the scene after the attack stopped. Dawn-Marie had worked as a paramedic for seven years, and she knew the local emergency crews couldn’t move in to help until the police officers said it was safe to do so.
It just so happened that the couple was also celebrating their wedding anniversary. But, instead of running away to celebrate their lucky break with a bottle of expensive champagne, they selflessly chose to stay and save the lives of others.
The couple quickly went to work providing CPR, tourniquets and holding pressure on injuries. They helped load the wounded into waiting cars and ambulances. While there are many heartbreaking tales that have revealed itself after the attack, there are just as many equally heartwarming stories.
We’ve heard of the unsung heroes; those who don’t want attention for their bravery in the face of danger. These are the strangers who compassionately saved others during and after the attack.
It serves to remind us that we are a species meant to thrive on cooperation and we actually do pull together for each other in times of need. What a blessing this couple was to those who needed their assistance and reassurance at such a terrible time.
