A man has been shot dead in an apparent execution-style murder south of Wollongong.
The victim, aged in his 30s, was found with several gunshot wounds in Gannet Avenue, Berkeley at about 5.10pm (AEST) on Saturday.
He was rushed to Wollongong Hospital but died a short time later.
Detectives said the man was deliberately targeted and it was not a random attack.
The gunman is thought to have been riding a motorbike and fled the area, which is not far from BlueScope’s Port Kembla steelworks.
A police spokesman was not able to clarify where on the body the man was shot, only that a number of shots were fired at him.
The murder is not thought to be bikie gang-related.
Local detectives are investigating the shooting and a strike force has been formed.
