Family dog will survive shooting: RSPCA

A young woman whose father was shot dead in front of her in a Brisbane home invasion has had some comfort from news their family dog will recover after being wounded in the attack.

Soon after the shooting at Rochedale South, the Rottweiler cross was taken to a local animal hospital for surgery to remove a bullet from its back.

The dog is now being cared for by the RSPCA and is expected to make a full recovery.

“The young woman has gained some comfort knowing her dog is going to be all right,” a spokesman told AAP.

“We’ll care for him until the family is able to take him back, and we’ll be liaising with police about possible charges against the person who shot the animal once they are arrested.”

John Lazzaro, 56, died from multiple gunshot wounds despite the efforts of paramedics.

His 19-year-old daughter, who was at the Priestdale Road home when the attack happened, was not harmed in the attack and made a frantic emergency call for help about 11pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Chris Jory from Logan CIB says scientific tests will continue over the weekend as the crime scene inside the large house is quite complex.

“We’re continuing to interview family and associates, and we’ll be at the scene for possibly another couple of days,” he told AAP.
