Former major leaguer Wladimir Balentien warned for updating twitter account during game

TOKYO – Former major league baseballer Wladimir Balentien has been warned by his Japanese team the Yakult Swallows for updating his twitter account during a 10-0 loss.

Balentien, who has been in the midst of a prolonged slump, tweeted “I will never give up” just before the end of Monday’s 10-0 loss to the Seibu Lions. He was sent to Yakult’s minor league team on Tuesday.

Despite the slump, the 27-year-old former Seattle Mariners outfielder is leading the Central League in home runs with 12 and is second in the league with 25 RBIs.

While there are no rules forbidding players from using social networking sites, Nippon Professional Baseball will consider creating rules at an executive meeting next month.
