WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will receive the same assistance from the federal government that any other Australian is entitled to, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy has said.
Britain’s Supreme Court has ordered Assange be extradited to Sweden to answer allegations of sexual assault.
The 40-year-old was not in court to hear the decision handed down by the seven justices in London on Wednesday.
Senator Conroy said that if he was extradited to Sweden the government would continue to assist him.
“We have provided and will continue to provide all the regular consular assistance that any Australian that gets into trouble anywhere in the world will be entitled to,” Senator Conroy said on the Nine Network.
