House approves bill to avert government shutdown (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Republican-led House of Representatives on Friday passed a $915 billion spending bill to avert a weekend government shutdown and keep federal agencies operating through September, 2012.

At least 70 of the 242 House Republicans voted against the measure.

The measure now heads to the Democratic-led Senate, where it is widely expected to pass, possibly on Saturday. That would send the measure to President Barack Obama to sign it into law.
