‘Iran-P5+1 talks important for world’

“I hope the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group [the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany] will be successful as the outcome of this meeting is important for the region and the world,” Zibari said during a news conference in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Tuesday.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1) have agreed to hold substantive talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program in Baghdad on May 23, 2012.

“Iraq is an independent country and has friendly relations with Iran, and no other country must show sensitivity” to Baghdad’s hosting of the talks, the Iraqi foreign minister added.

The latest round of talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group was held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14. Both sides hailed the discussions as constructive.

Iran and the P5+1 had previously held two rounds of talks, one in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2010, and another in Istanbul, Turkey, in January 2011.
