Iran to launch 1st ME petroleum refinery

“One of the most important plans is to complete and launch Iran’s first petroleum refinery with the largest capacity for refining Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracker (RFCC) in the Middle East,” Hamidreza Seyyed Ja’fari said on Tuesday.

Upon the completion of the development plan at the Shazand Imam Khomeini Refinery in the central Iranian city of Arak, a daily amount of 16 million liters of gasoline with octane numbers of 90 and 95 will be produced, 8.3 million liters of which will be super gasoline.

The plan will also see the refining capacity increase to 250,000 barrels of a mixture of light and heavy crude oil per day.

About 3.6 million liters of liquid gas, 6 million liters of jet fuel, 8.9 liters of diesel fuel and 2.4 million liters of furnace oil will also be produced at the refinery upon the completion of the refinery development plan.

Another significant goal of the project is to produce 7,700 barrels of Propene, also known as propylene, which is a waste product created when crude oil is refined into gasoline, diesel fuel and other items.

The new development plan is also focused on the reduction of sulfur and other pollutants in the oil products for obtaining the Euro-4 standard.
