Jarry robbery frightening: Vic judge

A series of violent robberies, including one of an Olympic gold medal hopeful, would have been frightening for the victims, a judge says.

Australian Opals basketball player Rachel Jarry was attacked and robbed by Jessica Croucher, 18, and a co-accused in central Melbourne in January.

Jarry was punched in the face and kicked in the stomach, ribs and back.

She curled up in the foetal position as the attack took place, the Victorian County Court heard on Monday.

Jarry’s Louis Vuitton purse, mobile phone and necklace were stolen.

Croucher has pleaded guilty to charges including robbery and intentionally causing serious injury and faced a pre-sentence hearing on Monday.

Jarry was one of six people targeted by Croucher and her friends.

One man suffered a 15cm wound after he was stabbed in the arm twice by Croucher.

Prosecutor Julian Ayres called for Croucher to receive between three and four-and-a-half years in prison.

Croucher’s barrister, Pardeep Tiwana, said his client, who is now pregnant, was remorseful.

The matter will return to court on July 24 for further sentencing submissions.
