UK police inspector suspended for racism

The inspector, who is based in north London, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of racist abuse and suspended from duties pending inquiries, which is the 13th case of alleged racism by Met police officers to emerge in recent four weeks.

The force’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are currently investigating the racism allegations against the police officer.

“The male officer was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order Act offence (racially aggravated words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress),” a Metropolitan Police (Met) spokesman said.

“He is at present on police bail and has been suspended from duties pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.”

However, of the total of thirteen Met police racism cases in recent weeks, only five are being handled by IPCC, with new figures showing that the Met has fired one officer out of 120 convicted of racism in more than a decade (1999 to 2011).

Scotland Yard said the officer is being investigated over an alleged incident in which he is accused of using racist abuse occurred in Barnet, north London , at 7.40am on Monday, while he was off duty.

Meanwhile, Police Constable (PC) Alex MacFarlane, faces charges over the alleged racial abuse of a black suspect in the wake of last year unrests in the UK. Furthermore, PC Philip Juhasz, was recently convicted of racially aggravated public disorder.
