Karzai Calls Narcotics As Big Calamity For Afghanistan

President Karzai called poppy cultivation and drugs trafficking as big calamity for Afghanistan, saying that his administration makes efforts for the removal, presidential press office said in a statement.

“Meeting Iranian interior and Pakistani counter-narcotics ministers, the president assured them for his government’s fully cooperation in struggle against narcotics production and trafficking,” the statement said.

Karzai said foreign elements are also involved in drugs trafficking in Afghanistan and the elimination requires internationally efforts.

“The neighboring countries’ cooperation is basic which can put a positive impact in this regard,” Karzai addressed Iranian and Pakistani ministers while the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) executive director, Yury Fedotov was also present.

Fedotov said 16 joint operations were launched by Afghan, Iranian and Pakistani border police that had successful consequences.
