Labor launches local government policy

The NSW ALP has launched at its state conference the party’s new local government policy, aimed at giving people a say on development in their local area.

The policy was created by the party’s new State Policy Forum, made up of rank-and-file members, the union movement, the parliamentary party and local government candidates from around NSW.

ALP mayoralty candidate Linda Scott said the party would challenge planning laws and ensure communities had a voice in the development process.

“Labor candidates will work to implement community developer accords, where the community will have a seat at the negotiating table at the beginning, not the end, of the development process,” Ms Scott said.

“A vote for Labor is a vote to empower communities to make decisions about development, for secure local jobs and services, and to improve our local environment.”
