Lebanese army nabs 33 Syrian rebels

The army also seized a large cache of weapons from the armed men on Monday.

Media reports say that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar supply arms to the Syrian rebels. The three Arab countries reportedly transport the military equipment via Turkey.

On March 3, Syrian government forces arrested a large number of gunmen with different nationalities in the Baba Amr neighborhood of Homs.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on February 20 that “some foreign countries” are fueling the turmoil in Syria by supporting and funding “armed terrorist groups fighting against the government.”

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March last year. Hundreds of people, including security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, stating that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
