Lib premiers set for COAG fight: Robertson

Liberal state premiers will come to Canberra this week to pick a fight, NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson says.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard will host state and territory leaders for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in Canberra on Friday.

Mr Robertson says the Liberal leaders of Western Australia, Queensland and NSW are “jockeying” for a fight.

“The problem is people are going there assuming positions of conflict rather than co-operation,” he told Sky News on Sunday.

“I find that worrying. It sends a message people are going there to play politics.”

He said NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell was going to the nation’s capital to campaign politically.

“He’s going there looking for opportunities, for excuses not to deliver on infrastructure,” Mr Robertson said.

He said Mr O’Farrell was finding excuses for not agreeing to a 50-50 arrangement on funding of the Pacific Highway upgrade.

“We’ve got the Commonwealth government offering $2 billion for the Parramatta to Epping rail link … and a state government saying we don’t have that $2 billion,” he said.
