The Newman government is already breaking its promise to be humble and dignified, the Queensland opposition says.
Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says the new Liberal National Party government is more interested in gloating about its huge parliamentary majority than governing the state.
She says the behaviour of LNP members during Thursday’s sitting of parliament was appalling, and was the polar opposite of what Premier Campbell Newman had promised of his government.
“The premier set these high standards. He said he was going to be humble, he was going to be dignified and he was going to be full of grace,” she told ABC radio.
“We saw none of those issues displayed by any of those MPs … “
Treasurer Tim Nicholls said parliament was always going to be a forum for robust exchanges.
“I think, after a long period in opposition, a new government is going to want to exercise the mandate it’s been given by the people of Queensland,” he told the ABC.
