A HEAD-ON collision has left a man in a serious condition after he allegedly attempted to escape from a previous accident moments before in Sydney’s east.

A 34-year-old man crashed his black Nissan Navara into the rear of a Honda Civic on Anzac Parade, Moore Park while travelling southbound about 12.30am.

The driver then began turning into Cleveland Street in an attempt to leave the scene and collided head-on with a taxi.

The impact sent the Navara onto its side and trapped the driver.

Emergency services removed the vehicle’s roof to access the unconscious victim.

Once the man was freed it’s believed he went into cardiac arrest and had to be rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Witness Atul, 27, from Campsie was parked behind the taxi when he saw the collision happen.

“This black car is coming from that intersection. My car is behind the taxi, he just smashed the taxi,” he said.

“He was very fast.”

The victim remains in a serious condition.

Anyone with information on the accident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
