A 22-YEAR-old chef doing an extra shift in a hotel bottleshop is fighting for his life after being run down and dragged 20m trying to stop robbers fleeing in a stolen car.
About 11pm last night, the man, named as Doug Parr, was working at the Logandowns Drive bottleshop, south of Brisbane, when he tried to stop a red Holden and its occupants from leaving with stolen products.
The ute hit him as it sped out of the driveway exit and away from the scene. He was dragged about 20m by the stolen car which had four men inside.
About 15 minutes later he was found by a patron and taken away by ambulance.
Police said he was taken to hospital with life-threatening head and internal injuries while the vehicle was later found abandoned.
Mr Parr had only been working at the bottleshop two months.
Logan district detectives, homicide squad, the forensic crash unit and serious violence crime squad are investigating the incident.
Detective Inspector Chris Jory from Logan District Detectives said the victim’s condition had deteriorated in the last few hours.
“His injuries consist of compression injuries, fractures and bleeding in the skull cap which is putting pressure on his brain,” he said.
“The young man is a chef by trade working at the hotel and was last night working an extra shift.”
A 14-year-old boy was today assisting police with their inquiries.
The victim’s family are maintaining a bedside vigil at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
The hit and run was part of a wider crime spree involving up to eight people over a 20-hour period in Creastmead, Calamvale and Meadowbrook.
This included a robbery at a Calamvale newsagency about 4am on Saturday where they stole a large quantity of cigarettes.
