Man struck and killed by bus in Melbourne

A young man has died after he was hit by a bus he’d just stepped off in Melbourne’s southeast.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, had been a passenger on the bus with three friends, when the group allegedly demanded the driver pull over so they could leave, about 7.30pm (AEST) on Saturday.

The bus stopped at the intersection of the Nepean Highway and Station Street in Bonbeach, the doors opened, and all four men got off.

Police believe the man was then struck by the bus as it pulled away.

Paramedics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s three friends fled the scene on foot, police said.

The bus driver stopped and was assisting police.

Witnesses are being urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
