McNally expected to hand over son

UPDATE 10.20am: Police negotiating with Jake Steven McNally via a family member say they expect the father to hand over his son to authorities this morning.

Mr McNally snatched his 15-month-old son and two-month-old daughter yesterday after a domestic incident.

The baby was handed back last night. The girl, who is still breast fed, was given to Mr McNally’s mother and sister at an arranged meeting in Kings Park and then taken to Kensington Police Station.

A police spokesman said they had reports that Mr McNally, 25, had allegedly threatened to kill his 15-month-old son Adam Francis and daughter Lara Francis.

Mr McNally, who is well known to police, wielded a machete during the dispute and allegedly attacked his partner, Liza Francis, 22.

Ms Francis, the mother of his two children, had minor injuries from the incident at a Langham Gardens home in Wilson about 9.30am.

Police say Mr McNally also assaulted his partner’s brother with the back of the machete, causing minor injuries, and his son was hurt in the fracas, but this was likely to have been accidental.

Ms Francis then went to see a doctor at the King George Street Family Practice in Victoria Park where Mr McNally allegedly assaulted her again.

He then took the children and his partner’s white Holden Barina 8KH 922 but police believe he has switched vehicles.

Acting Insp. Chris Adams said all domestic violence was serious, particularly when a child could be used in retribution.

Ms Francis said she knew Mr McNally would look after their son but she wanted him back.

She said she spoke to Mr McNally’s brother-in-law, who saw the children about noon yesterday.

Ms Francis also told of her fright when Mr McNally bashed down her door and threatened her before taking the children.
