Melbourne mum buried in wrong grave

A Melbourne family is demanding answers after they discovered their mother had been buried with a stranger for 12 months rather than her husband and son, who had died at 14.

Kathleen Papatriandaphillou was mistakenly buried in the wrong grave and her family is still waiting for an apology from Preston Cemetery, the Herald Sun said.

Her son Steve Papas said cemetery administrators initially denied a mistake had been made.

But when they were proved wrong, the officials said “big deal, we’ll move her”, Mr Papas said.

He said they had also refused a request to pay for counselling for traumatised members of the family.

“What we really wanted was a personal apology, an explanation of how it happened and something done to rectify the problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he said.
