nsnbc :  Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah is to appear in a live televised speech via al-Manar TV on Monday morning, saying that Hezbollah would avenge Israel’s assassination of senior Hezbollah leader Samir Kuntar in an air strike in Jaramana, near the Syrian capital Damascus.

This file photo shows Hezbollah resistance movement combatants in a military parade.Nasrallah siad that Hezbollah would retaliate for the killing of Samir Kuntar as it sees appropriate. Samir Kuntar was killed by an illegal Israeli precision air strike on Saturday. The ordnance was targeted precisely at an apartment where Kuntar was present at that time. Nasrallah siad:

“Samir is one of us and a commander of our resistance and it is our right to retaliate for his assassination in the place, time and a way we see appropriate. We will exercise this right, God willing. … We have no doubt or question that Israel is the one which assassinated Samir Qantar, its planes fired precision missiles on a residential apartment.”

At least seven, according to some record eight others were also killed in the Israeli air strike. Nasrallah noted that Hezbollah would retaliate at a time and place of its choice, implying that the organization would not make rush decisions.

The assassination of Samir Kuntar was also protested by Syrian nationalist groups and parties, the Syrian government, as well as by several Palestinian organizations and factions.

Samir Kuntar had spent 29 years in an Israeli prison before his release on July 16, 2008. His release was brokered by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command (PFLP-GC), as part of an exchange of prisoners against the return of the remains of fallen Israeli soldiers.

Israeli officials “welcomed” the death of Samir Kuntar while Israel would neither confirm or deny that it carried out the illegal air strike that violated Syrian sovereignty, international, as well as humanitarian law. Israeli minister Yoav Gallant commented:

“I am not confirming or denying anything to do with this matter. … It is good that people like Samir Qantar (Kuntar) will not be part of our world.”

Syrian Defense Forces stated in their Facebook page that the attack had been carried out by two Israeli warplanes, deploying four long-range missiles. It remains at this time uncertain from where precisely these missiles were launched. A Lebanese military source reported to nsnbc that it is likely that the long-range missiles were either launched from the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan or from the Israeli occupied Lebanese Sheba Farm area.
