Newman still well ahead in Ashgrove – poll

A NEW poll indicates Liberal National Party (LNP) leader Campbell Newman still holds a comfortable lead over rival Labor MP Kate Jones in the seat of Ashgrove, though his popularity has dipped slightly.

A poll of 500 residents in the Brisbane seat of Ashgrove yesterday evening by the company Reachtel showed 53.5 per cent intended to vote for the opposition leader, the Seven Network reported.

This figure had dropped 1.3 per cent since the last poll, but was still well ahead of the 36.8 per cent of respondants who said they would vote for incumbent Labor MP Kate Jones.

Ms Jones’s rating had risen 1.8 per cent, it was reported.

The poll comes after a string of revelations about Mr Newman’s personal finances over the past month which led to Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser referring him to the Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC).
