CHARGED: A 44-year-old senior constable from NSW has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a crowd.

WA POLICE have charged a New South Wales policeman after a woman was sexually assaulted on a crowded dance floor at a Northbridge pub last month.
Officers from the Internal Affairs Unit this week travelled to Sydney where they interviewed the officer, who had been seconded to Perth to work on the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting security operation in late October and early November.
The 44-year-old senior constable was interviewed at length and has been charged with sexual penetration without consent.
He has been summonsed to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on December 20.
The investigation comes after a 22-year-old woman made a report to police alleging she had been sexually assaulted by the off-duty officer on the dance floor of the Elephant and the Wheelbarrow pub in the early hours of Sunday, October 30.
She claimed she had been dancing among the crowd some time between 1am and 2am when she was sexually assaulted.
Earlier this month, internal affairs officers investigating the complaint published an image from the CCTV footage in a bid to identify potential witnesses.
But PerthNow understands that subsequent enhancement of the vision by investigators led to the second interview of the NSW Police officer and charges against him.
It is believed NSW Police will made any decision about the officer’s future with the force and whether he will be stood down during the criminal proceedings.
In the wake of the complaint, the officer was allowed to return to NSW after the initial police interview and surrendering forensic material.
