The NSW police have bolstered their ranks with eight new Springer Spaniel puppies born into the force.
Police sniffer dog Bronte gave birth to a litter of eight pups, four male and four female, on Thursday.
“This is the first time we have bred our own Springer Spaniel pups within our own unit,” dog squad commander Mick Goodwin said in a statement on Friday.
“To get eight healthy pups with a 50-50 mix of boys and girls is an absolute bonus.”
Work won’t start for a while for the new members of the force, but Superintendent Goodwin said they’ll be trained up to work the same beat as their parents.
“We will be training these pups to be detection dogs capable of finding drugs, explosives, firearms, cadavers and even cash,” he said.
