Officer Assaults Cellphone Store Employee, Employee Is Arrested

A Washington Metropolitan Police Department Officer has been arrested and charged with assault after assaulting two people inside a cell phone store.

Officer Ulysses Delaney went into a cell phone store around 7 pm on Wednesday night. While inside the Cricket Wireless store, he became involved in a physical altercation with an unidentified female employee and 20-year-old Curlee Walker, also an employee.

The fight started inside the store, but continued outside in the street, until MPD officers arrived on scene. Officer Ulysses Delaney, who is a 15-year veteran of MPD, has been reassigned to ‘administrative duties’.

Both Curlee Walker and Officer Ulysses Delany were arrested and charged with ‘simple assault’.

Why were both men charged?

As I watched the video, I could see an angry, out-of-control police officer, so hell-bent on attacking another man, that he was willing to assault a female employee who stood in his way (while someone’s child was sitting, watching the entire ordeal). The other man, Curlee Walker, tried removing himself from the confrontation, but the police officer wouldn’t allow it – the officer chased him down and beat him.

So why then, is Curlee Walker being charged with assault? Shouldn’t that be considered self-defense? Is it because one of the people involved is a police officer? Is it because they need to make sure BOTH men are charged, so that the police can offer to ‘drop’ the charges against Curlee in exchange for not suing the police department.
