March 30, 2012  Albuquerque, New Mexico – Since February 2012, Earthfiles has received an increasing number of loud, jolting boom reports from all over North America. So, the March 18 to March 28, 2012, persistent booms in Clintonville, Wisconsin, are part of a larger pattern that are not explained by the March 20, 2012, small 1.5 magnitude quake that USGS recorded in the vicinity of Clintonville.

Here are some of the similar loud, jolting boom reports received and organized in chronological order beginning with February 2012 and going forward in time through March 2012.

Subject:   February 2012 Loud Noises in Markdale, Ontario, Canada
Date:   March 27, 2012
To:   [email protected]

Hi Linda:

I live out in the boonies, about two hours northwest of Toronto, Canada, in Markdale.
Several weeks ago (February 2012), in the middle of the day, I experienced such a noise as you have been reporting about in Clintonville, Wisconsin. I was in one building on our property, when I heard what sounded like a progressive collapse of some sort. As if large tree had crashed into our barn, knocking it down and then knocking down steel racking within, throwing the contents of various machinery onto the cement floor. A very violent event to be sure. I, with much dread, headed out to see what had happened (especially since we have no insurance!). I could find absolutely nothing amiss in any of our buildings or house. No big tree came down . . . nothing!

Subject:   Mid-March 2012 Booms Heard in Canaan and Rockland, Maine
Date:   March 24, 2012
To:   [email protected]

On March 14th or 15th, around 11:30 AM, in Canaan, Maine, I was sitting in my car eating my lunch when I heard a huge boom. It was shockingly loud, and at first I thought a fuel tanker truck in a convenience store parking lot across the street had exploded. Seeing no smoke there, I looked in my rear-view mirror to see if perhaps the furnace or something in my workplace behind me had blown up, but again saw nothing. I then got out of my car and looked around, wondering if there had been a car crash, but saw no sign of anything. I then concluded it must have been a sonic boom, something I hadn’t heard in probably 20 years.

A few strange things, though. First, a couple days later, I spoke with my brother who lives about 75 miles away in Rockland, Maine, on the coast. He too heard the boom days before around the same exact time (11:30 AM), also concluding it was a sonic boom.

The second strange thing is that about 30 minutes later on March 14 or 15, I was back at work near a window that looked out onto some woods (Canaan is quite rural with a lot of trees). It was an unseasonably warm day and the window was open. Suddenly I became aware that a sound I was hearing, which I unconsciously thought was a passing lumber truck, had been going on for 20-30 seconds, longer than it took a truck to pass – more like a large group of passing motorcycles. It then occurred to me that the sound wasn’t like a truck or motorcycle driving by, but more like the “Gabriel’s Horn” sound (Kiev, Ukraine) reported around the world, having the same kind of pitch and metallic timbre. I furthermore wondered, if it was a car or truck, why would it be so loud, as the room I was in was quite a ways from the road and in the other direction as well. Anyway, as soon as I had this thought, the sound stopped. There is probably a prosaic explanation and I may have forgotten about it entirely if it hadn’t happened so soon after hearing the boom.

Subject:   Powerful Boom in Brunswick, Georgia
Date:   March 15, 2012
To:   [email protected]

Linda, This morning at around 8:28 am, a large explosion or boom was heard over Brunswick, GA. This boom shook window and doors throughout the entire county. Upon further reports, it was felt from as far west as 10 miles west of Waycross GA, south to Folkston GA, and north to Savannah GA. A local radio call in show on WGIG, 1440 AM, took calls from people that heard and felt this large event.

Subject:   Strange sounds coming from sky, Middletown, Connecticut
Date:   March 16, 2012
To:   [email protected]

On Thursday, March 15, 2012, I heard very odd sounds coming from the sky above me on three different occasions. This occurred in my hometown of Middletown, CT. The first sound occurred about 11:50 a.m., the second about 30 seconds later, and the third sound was heard between 8:30-9:00 p.m.

On the first occasion, I was pulling in to a grocery store with my window open (it’s been quite warm in CT lately). The sound began abruptly (as if a switch was turned on). It lasted for about 10 seconds and then abruptly stopped (no fade out). As I was pulling into a parking stall, I heard it a second time. Again, it began abruptly, lasted for about 20 seconds before abruptly stopping. Initially I thought that perhaps a military jet was HOVERING directly above me. It wasn’t until my car came to a complete stop (no car noise) that I realized it was not a jet plane. I hear airplanes and jet planes regularly, and these sounds were NOT of that nature. It sounded like NOTHING I had ever heard before. The sky was clear and nothing was visible, and I did notice other people looking up at the sky. Nothing was seen.

On the third occasion, I had just gotten into bed. Like the first two sounds, it began abruptly, no slow buildup, and lasted for about 10 seconds. But this time, the pitch was more erratic, especially right before it concluded (abruptly). My bedroom window was partially open, and I heard it clearly. However, I did not get out of bed to look up.

On all three occasions, the sounds were so loud, I could not help but to think that if an object was producing them, it had to be directly overhead and quite low. But no object was visible on the second (and only) occasion when I did actually look up at the sky intensely. And I can’t imagine what type of object would produce a sound as strange and eerie as this. Though it is virtually impossible to describe in words what it sounded like, I will say that it was VERY loud and VERY intimidating.

For the record, I asked my neighbor the next day if she had heard any strange sounds in the sky on Thursday, and she responded that she had, and that it “sounded like a hovering drone.” Tonight, I searched the internet and discovered that others worldwide are experiencing similar phenomenon in greater frequency.

Subject:   Unexplained Explosion – Virginia Beach, Virginia
Date:   March 23, 2012
To:   [email protected]

Dear Linda,

Early Saturday morning on March 17th, 2012, at 5:42 a.m., I was awakened by a single, very intense explosion. The concussion shook the building and was not accompanied by any other sound. Just one explosion that came from out of nowhere and then silence. It was an ear-splitting sound, or to be more precise, a simultaneous heavy earth-and-sky splitting sound. I got up and wrote the time down. I did not make a 911 call, but would have if the sound persisted.

I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, several miles south of the NAS Oceana jet base The location of the base is also close to the Dam Neck Amphibious Base. I have lived in this area in an apartment building for over seven years. I am accustomed to hearing jets, practice shelling over the ocean at Dam Neck, and I know what a sonic boom sounds like. The sound I heard that Saturday morning was not anything I could identify as being connected with either of these facilities.

Subject:   Loud booms in Gonzales, Louisiana
Date:   March 24, 2012
To:   [email protected]

Hi Linda,
Just spoke to my daughter in Gonzales, Louisiana, and she and my granddaughter heard four loud booms a few days ago. She told me that they both ran out of their houses to see what had blown up, but there was nothing to see. She thought that one of the chemical plants had blown up. Just wanted to let you know that these sounds are in Louisiana, too.

Subject:   Loud Booms in Rocky Face, Georgia
Date:   March 25, 2012
To:   [email protected]

I have lived in my house in Rocky Face, Georgia, since 1989. I have recently heard booms or what sounds like a train beginning to move and all cars in tow. It also sounds like large dumpster garbage trucks picking up garbage bins and flinging them over into the storage bay.
For what it is worth, I have never been awoken in the middle of the night with these sounds until recently. I assumed it was new construction of some sort.

Subject:   Strange sounds, lights and strange booms from Pulaski, Minnesota
Date:   March 25, 2012
To:   Linda Howe [email protected]

I live in Pulaski, Minnesota. Just the other day, I was outside observing the sky very late at night / morning around 4 or 5 AM and I saw a series of bright blue flashes of light that lit up the WHOLE sky. But I only saw the ambient light as I was in my car in my driveway and rushed out to see what it was and it had stopped as soon as I got out of my car.

But as soon as I got out maybe a few seconds later, I heard a single VERY LOUD distant BOOM! After those events I have heard very similar sounds as those being described by the people in the Youtube videos as well as what sounds like a whooshing sound that pulses in audible volume.

Subject:   Strange Booms in Vilnius, Lithuania
Date:   March 25, 2012
To:   [email protected]

Hello Linda,

I live in Vilnius, Lithuania. On Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012, I heard a loud explosion at about 1 or 2 AM. This was followed 20 minutes later by a smaller explosion sound. Nothing was visible out the window, and I could pinpoint the direction from which the sound came as more or less SSW. The next day I heard
another explosion, again in the early hours of Thursday morning, March 22,
with no visible activity. Nothing was reported in the newspapers either time.

I live between an airport and a train station and am used to sounds from
both places. This was not trains crashing together. It sounded more like a
bomb. I can compare it to a bomb I heard go off in this city in about
1996. Another comparison would be with a building being dropped from a
not-too-high height and crashing in on itself. It sounded like dynamite
rather than a firework, with matter moving at high speed, not a sonic boom
whoosh and not an explosion in the open air. The first time it happened I
was caught off guard, but on the second day I was not alarmed, and my
intuition said there was nothing to worry about. It did not repeat on the
second day.

I am aware of the “strange sounds” and the more recent booms in Wisconsin.
There was nothing I could place as “geological” about the explosion
sounds, but I couldn’t identify anything about them, really. I know they
weren’t sonic booms and they weren’t thunder.

I read your article on the loud booms. We have felt them here before in Paola, Kansas, many months ago. Then we felt and heard them again tonight around 12:26 AM Saturday, March 24th, 2012. Paola is about 40 minutes south of Kansas City. There are no major military bases close by.

It struck me because my wife and I heard something very similar this weekend. It was Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 17:57 (6 PM Eastern). My wife and I were seated at the kitchen table taking a break from working outside. Our 4 indoor dogs and 2 cats were laying at our feet. At 17:57, we all heard (dogs and cats included) a boom that came from the south side of the house. The entire house shook from the sound waves as though some large object had impacted the south side of the house.

I stood up and ran outside. I walked around the parameter of the house to see if I could see what had caused the sound. I found no evidence. I should also mention that one of our cats was born deaf. He reacted immediately to the sound as if he felt the vibrations.
