Police have warned that they will be out in force for the Queen’s visit tomorrow and will crack down on any potential troublemakers.

The royal visit is expected to draw big crowds and Occupy Melbourne protesters have said that that they could use the event to highlight their campaign.

However, police are certain to crack down on any trouble to prevent a repeat of last Friday, when almost 100 protesters were arrested after occupying City Square.

“Whilst we support peaceful protest, we urge everyone to act within the law. Police will take appropriate action if people breach the peace,” a police spokeswoman said today.

“A large police contingent will be deployed to ensure the safety of the Queen and the community.

“Police have a job to do and will work to ensure the safety of the community.”

Occupy Melbourne organisers tonight plan to meet outside the state library, where they are likely to determine whether to demonstrate during the Queen’s visit.

Police said they were not anticipating any deliberate disruptions, but the spokeswoman said they did not expect a repeat of the clashes with demonstrators last week.

“This is a great event for Melbourne that will attract thousands of Victorians who will be coming to see the Queen,” she said.

“Of course, we would not want to see this historic occasion marred by people who are intent on causing disruption.”
