FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda According to Palestinian medical sources, the latest raid struck the Jabalia refugee camp in north of Gaza on Monday, killing a man and his daughter.
The victims were identified as Mohammed Mustafa al-Hasumi, 65, and Faiza al-Hasumi, 35.
Earlier in the day, three Palestinians, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Twenty-three Palestinians have been killed and dozens of others have been injured since Israel increased attacks on the Gaza Strip on Friday.
China, Jordan and the Arab League have condemned the Israeli attacks, urging Tel Aviv to stop airstrikes.
Press TV talks with Kamel Wazne, a professor of the American University of Beirut, regarding the issue. Below is a transcription of the interview:
Press TV: What is Israel’s game plan in this escalating violence and bloodshed? How does this help their cause?
Wazne: This is the act of aggression by the tyranny of Israeli as we have witnessed it since the existence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian land. Obviously, there is a failure by the Israelis to persuade the Americans to go into war against Iran.
They could not launch a war against Iran; they could not launch a war against the other entities like Hezbollah in Lebanon and obviously, they went to maybe get some points in Palestine against Gaza because they are considered to be the weakest links especially the Palestinians there at one point are wavering on some of the main issues of the resistance.
We noticed that Hamas went to Qatar to try to mediate some agreement but eventually, what we are seeing is that the Palestinians should know that the resistance is the only way to liberate Palestine and the resistance and the front of the resistance is the only way and means to prevent an Israeli attack and the continued occupation of Gaza and the rest of Palestine.
I think Mr. Netanyahu raised the rhetoric very high and [he has failed in his] policy to persuade the Americans because the Americans are very weak at this point and they went probably into a mode where they are concentrated on the election and they know any war in Iran is going to very costly for the United States and for its economy.
And Netanyahu is probably trying to register some point but I think this escalation puts the whole tension into focus and reminds the Palestinians that the resistance is their only way and mean to actually stop the aggression and this will unify the Palestinians against the Israelis.
Today Israel is at the weakest point in its history. Probably that is why they want to like muscle some power and use in Gaza but definitely this has put the whole issue into perspective.
Press TV: Where do such attacks leave possibilities of a peace plan ever being agreed upon, especially now that unity also exists between the Palestinian factions?
Wazne: The Saudis and the Qataris tried to push Hamas out of the resistance and they tried to put them into Abu Mazen camp and I think they made some mistakes because they should have learned that peace road that was actually championed by the Americans actually has been serving the Israelis all along and been annexing the Palestinian land and creating an apartheid by Israel and domination by Israel over the whole holy land.
Today it should be awakening for the Palestinians who just for one second felt that there is another road that the resistance is the only way to continue the struggle against the Israeli occupation. I think the Israelis right now, as I said, are at their weakest point in their history; they made a lot of rhetoric, a lot of threats but they are very weak to launch any attack against the major power in the resistance movement whether it is in Lebanon, Iran, Syria.
So they actually attack the Palestinians and Netanyahu probably needs some rating approval. His visit has been failure; his rhetoric has been failure. I do not think the Americans want to go to war on behalf of the Israelis.
They will probably supply them with weapons but they do not, at this point, want to engage in any confrontation that can have a magnificent destabilization for the world economy and for the US economy which really is on the verge of collapse. So the Israelis started this attack against children and innocent people and without any provocation.
