Pictured on holiday, this is the woman accused of breaking into Simon Cowell’s £10million mansion armed with half a brick.

Zambian-born Leanne Zaloumis, 29, once looked forward to a career in finance but now she is in custody – charged with aggravated burglary at the multi-millionaire’s West London home.

Her mother has spoken of the family’s shock and dismay at her arrest.

‘As far as I know she’s not even a fan of Simon Cowell,’ said 53-year-old Heather Claxton at her home in south London.

‘What happened was totally unexpected and it is shocking how she has been portrayed.

‘I just want her back home. She is my only daughter and I love her and I can’t wait to hug her when she comes out. We are a very strong family and the love that we have for each other will help her through this.’

Miss Zaloumis, who once took part in a Miss Zambia beauty contest, is accused of breaking into Cowell’s mansion by smashing his bathroom window with a rock after scrambling on to a flat roof.

Cowell, 52, was reported in February to have separated from fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy although he denied this was the case.

On March 24,  West London magistrates were told, the X Factor creator was watching TV in his bedroom at 10.30pm when he heard a ‘loud bang’ in the bathroom on the first floor of his home, which used to be the French Ambassador’s residence.

Entering the bathroom to investigate, he was confronted by a figure standing on the flat roof outside holding a rock above her head, with her hands covered in blood.

Cowell fled back to his bedroom and his staff called Scotland Yard, who sent a squad of armed officers.

After searching the grounds and gardens, they found an intruder hiding on a shelf 7ft up in a walk-in wardrobe with blood-smeared walls adjoining Cowell’s bedroom.

District Judge James Henderson remanded Miss Zaloumis in custody to face Isleworth Crown Court on June 12.

Miss Zaloumis has three brothers in the UK and two half-brothers in Zambia. After moving to Peckham with her family, she attended Kingsdale Secondary School in Dulwich Village before going on to complete a  business and finance course at Kingston College.

She had various stints of employment in administration roles and most recently she worked as a care assistant.

She lives alone in a one-bedroom flat in Catford, south London. Her mother, who works as an administrator, said: ‘I just don’t know what happened with my daughter.

‘She was very worried about me because I haven’t been very well and she was also in between jobs and was a little stressed about looking for work.

‘But in the last few days before the incident she had been super bubbly and she was at her brother’s house having fun with the family.

‘What happened was totally out of character. What keeps me going is all the love that everyone has for her because she is a lovely person and she hasn’t got a bad bone in her body.’
